London’s Calling – 2020

London’s Calling fifth year, and was a little bit different, due to the last minute pivot to London’s Calling TV in light of the Covid 19 situation.

Moving to a physical/virtual hybrid event meant some slight changes and challenges, but we still had some amazing sessions, as listed here.

Please note that not all sessions were recorded.

APIs are not just for Admins anymore. “External Services” lets Admins design Flows to interact with external APIs without (much) help from developers. APIs give you access to external systems and data but until now have needed APEX developers to help set it up. In about 20 minutes I’ll show how to use External Services and Flow to create powerful user experiences and process automation – WITHOUT writing a single line of code #ClicksNotCode

“My Salesforce is slow” is a common complaint by users. As you implement more and more functionality, record saving times will eventually become slower and slower. Your devs tell you only code can save you now. But there is a way without any code! In this session I will explain the concept of decoupling processes with a combination of Process Builder and Platform Events. Moreover, there will be a live implementation and I will share learnings we had along the way.

Watch three cool Service Cloud technologies: IoT, FSL and Community connected in a 24×7 real life scenario modelled in a Greenhouse demo. Electronic devices measures greenhouse parameters, and send readings to the Salesforce IoT that reacts to deviations or unexpected events. When the glass roof gets broken, the nearest technician receives and order that let him go and fix the issue on-site. We will dive into the internals so you get a fair understanding of each of the presented technologies.

You may have heard that best practice with the Salesforce Process Builder is to only have one process per object. And you may be the only one. We see dozens of orgs where either no one knew that, or people did and didn’t follow the guidelines. To be fair, it’s not that obvious how to have just one process firing per object, so in this session, I’ll be looking at why you should, why you sometimes can’t, how you construct your process and considerations about things like governor limits.

If you are an automation junkie like us and are looking for ways to boost your productivity, in this talk we will show you how to create an SFDX plugin with Gulp in it.

Life before packages: big monolith deployments and spaghetti code. Motivation to go with DX packages. The plan: two approaches. The real story: went live with more than 20 packages. Our feedback:- Working with cutting edge technologies has its pros and cons – Complete redesign of the code and dev ops maturity required – Difficult and long ramp up for developers – Don’t put everything in packages – Still a long journey ahead. If we were to start the project over again, would we do it differently?

Over the years, after seeing numerous small & large projects, I tend to think that Salesforce is an excellent platform for building monsters. It’s so easy to just add new features, implement business requirements in so many different ways that eventually you end up with a “Big Ball of Mud” rolling down the hill. This presentation focuses on Domain-Driven Design patterns that were proposed by Eric Evans and how to apply them in APEX as a framework for a scalable architecture.

Have you ever needed to get details from across all these objects using a single query to build a report or process business logic to collect aggregated data? If so, come and join this session to learn how Salesforce is planning to bring this revolutionary idea into reality.
